Food for thought: Books VS real life

In my psychology books, I may have learnt the process of how people face and accept pending death. It seems pretty logical and true but in real life, I realised its different. really different. there are too many external factors that affect how one and others face death. scary, confusing, illogical at times. trouble boils when people have different opinions.

what's worst in my point of view is the whole emotional roller coaster that all involved parties have to face until everything subsides.

"Accept it" is what many can easily say but not do it. But time will heal, I know.

please let there be a peaceful beginning and ending =)

Xmas 2012

Christmas was slightly different this year... no elaborate celebrations, no gifts. just my usual excitement admiring beautiful Christmas trees and mini-meetups. haha

Surprisingly, I prefer it this way since it certainly wasn't a time of celebration for me. Anyway,

Merry Christmas to all my family & friends. Stay blessed, cherish your loved ones and be HAPPY & POSITIVE! muacks=)

Fattiveggi: Cafe Salivation

Cafe Salivation
*New address: 176 Race Course Road (its nearer to the MRT now. Exit F from Farrer Park MRT, turn right and you'll see the cheery pink signboard)

I'm back here for their pizzas and other 'fattilicious' food! oops~

Paneer pizza

Rosemary potato wedges

Lasagna with soya granules and spinach

Hawaiian pizza

Laska (its a mixture of tomyum and laksa flavour, you either like it or hate it)

their food are still good but unfortunately, price inflation ah!!!! =(

Fattiveggi: LIU HE Vegetarian Food

LIU HE Vegetarian Food
Beauty World Centre, #04-28, 144 Bukit Timah Road, Singapore 588177

This is a stall tucked at a corner of the food centre on level 4 of Beauty World Centre.
Simple & wholesome food!
mixed veg soup

Claypot Rice (BEST liao! *this is not available on the 1st & 15th of the lunar month)

sweet & sour 'fish' (too sour)

stir-fry vegetable

*Must try the Claypot rice but rmb to get a few khakis to share with because the portion is quite huge~ value for $ too!

Fattiveggi: Just Greens Vegetarian Food / Sugalight ice cream

Just Greens Vegetarian Food
49-51 Joo Chiat Place, Singapore 472223

This vege eatery is a 'heaven' of mock meat dishes. =/ BUT thankfully, most of their dishes are accompanied with a fair share of green veggies so they are generally quite ok.

Steamed 'chicken'

Fried enoki mushroom

Braised tofu (recommended)

kangkong (not recommended. it was way too salty)

assam 'fish' (my grandma loved this dish the most but too spicy for me though)

'Sharkfin's' soup (this was good)

The dishes are generally flavourful but tend to be on the saltish side. It was mind-baffling to me why the restaurant received a healthier choice certificate.  Anyway, I wouldn't mind giving them another chance since I have the restaurant's life-time privilege card. well, perhaps it's just an excuse for me to travel to joo chiat and get the SUGALIGHT ice-cream!!!!!

*****************************************************************************
Sugalight Ice-cream are special, healthier, and really yummy!

Sub-conscious reigns..

I was really shocked by my sub-conscious thoughts that replayed themselves in my dreams for two consecutive nights while i was consciously thinking about an issue during the day.

it was scary but it has led me to think though more carefully about making any momentous decision.

but for now, i'm certain my conscious thoughts cannot win over my sub-conscious.

how?

Food for Thought: Poorest President

This morning I read this article posted by Dr Jiajia's FB page. It was about the world's poorest president. Check this out:

http://www.ukzambians.co.uk/home/2012/11/15/jose-mujica-meet-the-worlds-poorest-president/

& I absolutely adore this quote ->

“I’m called ‘the poorest president’, but I don’t feel poor. Poor people are those who only work to try to keep an expensive lifestyle, and always want more and more,” he says.

out of curiosity, i searched for '知足常乐' in youtube to see what i can find. and then i found this  song: 知足是幸福

Yums: Baked rice

Its been quite some time since I ventured into the culinary world... I'm always apprehensive to make a meal but after seeing how simple it is to whip up a meal thru my friend's blog.. I decided to give it a try~

So here's my veggie version of baked rice:

1. Cook your rice ( I used japanese pearl rice)

2. Slice button mushroom & cut mock ham into small cubes

3. Mix mushroom and ham with tomato puree and cook it slightly (Sprinkle a little oregano flakes)

4. Mix the tomato sauce with rice and place them in a casserole

3. Slice potatoes & zucchini (soak them in salt water)

4. Layer the zucchini & potato slices on top of the rice, cover the top layer with mozzarella cheese. (I added gouda cheese for extra flavour)

5. Bake it in the oven at 230 degree for about 30 minutes

6. Garnish with baby spinach

YAY~ its edible. haha!

Yums: Fruit punch

My mum made fruit tart this week so there was a box of leftover fruits. There are many times when I don't feel like eating fruit as it is.. I think I'm just lazy to chew =P

So I blended the kiwi, peach and strawberry with Florida's Orange-Strawberry juice and tada!!! healthilicious fresh fruit punch~

Random: say or write?

I realise I have difficulties expressing myself. sometimes I show it, sometimes I don't. This is ironic, but it's me and that's a problem.

perhaps I'm better at expressing myself thru words, thru my blog. thru an indirect channel maybe.

alright, you might not understand what I'm talking about, neither am I clear-headed about this =P

I'd better get back to work on my final assignment, the most 'yuckky but interesting' mod I've taken in uni. plus 2 more exams and I'm done. I can't wait to move on because I can't imagine the future.

FattiVeggi: Bangkok

Sawadeeka~ haha this post shall be about finding vege food in bangkok. Not very comprehensive but i'm sure you'll eat and drink well. not much photos though cos i spent more time shopping. =/

here we go~

1. Platinum mall. One vege stall in foodcourt but closes around 6-7pm. food tends to get very limited then.

2. Krung Thong Plaza (opposite platinum mall). One vege stall in foodcourt. 8am - 6pm. recommend this stir-fry noodle. sweet & nice~

3. Indra Square foodcourt. 2 vege stalls. One indian(Jain food available) and one chinese.

4. MBK Plaza.

- one vege stall in the foodcourt(level 6). try their tom yum soup and stir-fry noodle
- one vege stall at Fifth Food Avenue(level 5). the more atas range.

- one half-veg restaurant at B1, Nova Restaurant. a very good selection of thai and chinese veg food.

5. Terminal 21. The new shopping centre in BKK. One vege stall in the foodcourt. Opens till 9pm. quite a huge variety of food.

6. Chamlong's Asoke Vegetarian food. Near Chatuchak Market. trying to find this place was not easy indeed. It was hidden in an alley amongst nightclubs. wat an irony. huge variety of food, cheap, but ordering them was tough because none of the staff understood english or mandarin. Thankfully we were lucky to meet a lady who could help us translate. =)

anw, this info that i koped from a webby was quite clear in giving the directions:

You can either walk from Chatuchak Market, or you can get off at Kampaeng Phet MRT station.
  • Exit, or pass, the station – Exit #1
  • Continue for about 100 meters in the direction away from the market
  • Take a right at Roy’s Antiques shop
  • Walk down the road and you’ll pass a couple of strange nightclubs, like Hareem’s on your right hand side
  • Continue straight, past a little guard booth and you’ll end up in the parking lot (pictured above)
  • Walk into the building and you’ll find the grazing zone in the back
Open Hours:
Tuesday – Friday: 6am – 2pm
Saturday – Sunday: 6 am – 3 pm

7. Try to go BKK in Oct during the Vegetarian Festival. Their Chinatown will be filled with foodstalls selling vege street food~ I was there a week earlier and there were already some stalls available. Its a major festival in BKK and even non-veg restaurants are putting up veg menu. even the supermarkets are selling many vege stuffs. Just keep a lookout for the veg flag in yellow and red~

done! =D

Fattiveggi: Real Food Grocer Cafe

Real Food Grocer Cafe
Location: 110 Kiliney Road
Cutlery basket made from newspaper. cool eh?
Here, they serve a variety of Organic juices:
spinach, carrot, apple juice "I'm popeye the sailor man! poo poo!"
Wheatgrass Apple
Orange juice
Word of caution: *Stick to the safe juice options if you're not daring enough
alright, here comes the mains & sides:
Fried Vermicelli
Dumpling noodles Dry
Veggie Noodles
Bruschette with mushroom & cheese
Fried Dumpling
Mushroom Aglio Olio Pasta (not recommended. it was very dry and almost tasteless)
Pesto Pasta
Food wise was so-so, small portions but some were quite flavourful such as the veggie noodles and fried vermicelli.
Super love the laid-back atmosphere at this cafe. Its spacious and nicely lit. Definitely a good place to spend some quality time away from the hustle & bustle of orchard road and then slurp down a cup of organic juice. maybe some desserts too *think french toast, pancakes, ice cream. hmmm =P
